Sometimes in the craziness of wedding season (this wedding was the first of three in a week and a half), I forget how much I loved each expression of love. Then I go back and blog these sessions and remember all over again the incredibly beauty in these sessions and how lovely it felt to witness love between two amazing people. I love these photos- the location, the people, the emotion.
Remembering makes me feel so blessed, so thank you again Janessa and Derek for trusting me to be a part of your special day <3 Venue: Pacific Shores Resort, Nanoose Bay, BC *Note* This wedding celebration did not actually include the ceremony, as their official ceremony had been held a few months before the celebration day. Once in a while, as a photographer, you get a chance to photograph an incredibly good- looking couple in one of the most beautiful places on the planet. This was one of those weddings. When Sarah said she wanted me to photograph their wedding I was over the moon excited. I had wanted to photograph a couple in Avatar Grove for a long time and I knew this was my opportunity. Not only was this in the perfect location, but I had spent a week with Sarah doing a yoga teacher training before this and knew that she was a fantastic person, so I knew the entire experience would be wonderful. It was. Not only are Sarah and Cam, her hubby, fabulous people, but their friends and family were just was wonderful. It was an honor and a joy to be a part of their special day. So here are the photos of the amazing day. Venue: Big Fish Lodge, Port Renfrew Couple's Photos: Port Renfrew Beach and Avatar Grove So this magical wedding has too interesting of a story for me not to share in detail: I met Sarah and Chris at a wedding I was photographing last summer. Sarah was a bridesmaid, and at the end of the wedding, right after the bouquet had been thrown, Chris (who was drunk by then and doesn't remember this) came up to me and said, "She's next." Talking about Sarah being the next bride. "Oh yea," I said. "No, really." He replied, and he wasn't lying. So they called me to photograph their wedding, and naturally I was incredibly excited to be a part of the continuation of their story! The day of their wedding, however, started out for me as anything but smooth. Coral, my assistant, and I started driving down island and got stuck on the wrong side of an accident that shut down the Malahat. We almost didn't make it to the wedding! Ditching our car on one side of the Malahat, we jumped on a ferry by foot (a ferry that was nearly shut down due to crazy winds) and were lucky enough to be able to bum a ride on the other side and to the wedding. Filled with stress and arriving two hours later than we meant to, Coral and I made it half an hour before the ceremony. Forcing ourselves into the wedding vibe, we scrambled to catch up and get our photos. Naturally, some of the shots I wanted got missed, but I was still happy with what we got! And next time we photography a wedding in Victoria, we will definitely be heading up the night before. This was such a magically and beautifully styled wedding! Tammy from Blue Lily Events did an amazing job of not only planning an amazing ceremony and reception, but she also did a fantastic job of coordinating the event, keeping people organized and on time and looking beautiful while doing so :) I feel so blessed to have been able to photograph such a beautiful event with wonderful people :) Thanks again to Coral for being such an amazing assistant!
Kaija and Dustin's wedding was one of the funnest weddings I have ever been to. They are both incredibly fun, creative and caring people and those characteristics shone even stronger though their wedding party and the family that was around them. They chose to do some things in very non- traditional ways, such as Kaija choosing a red wedding dress and white Bridesmaid's dresses, and the Dustin and his groomsman dressing with super hero t-shirts under their tuxes. These are exactly the kind of details that I love! It allows for so many beautiful and colorful candid moments when people are willing to be their silly and fun selves. These pictures turned out well because of their ideas and creativity. I'm so appreciative to this couple for choosing me as their photographer and giving me a chance, even though I don't have a lot of wedding experience :) I also want to give a big shout out to my wonderful assistant and sister from another mister, Coral, for doing an incredible job. She helped the bridal party out with their finished details, helped me with my creative vision, and lugged around a bunch of my gear for the day. Things definitely would have run a lot less smoothly without her being part of the crew, so thanks a lot Coral! |
