Sometimes in the craziness of wedding season (this wedding was the first of three in a week and a half), I forget how much I loved each expression of love. Then I go back and blog these sessions and remember all over again the incredibly beauty in these sessions and how lovely it felt to witness love between two amazing people. I love these photos- the location, the people, the emotion.
Remembering makes me feel so blessed, so thank you again Janessa and Derek for trusting me to be a part of your special day <3 Venue: Pacific Shores Resort, Nanoose Bay, BC *Note* This wedding celebration did not actually include the ceremony, as their official ceremony had been held a few months before the celebration day. The other day, a few of us went on an adventure up into the mountains behind our house. We ended up on this ridge with an incredibly beautiful alpine forest that was far too pretty to pass up for some photos. But as is my style, just taking pictures of trees and scenery was not enough. I needed some people in my shots. So I asked for volunteers and Cam quickly decided to be that person. I was grateful, but not satisfied, so I forced everyone into letting me take pictures of them :) Even the awesome weenie roasting fire had its portrait captured ;)
Adventurous portraits are my favorite kind of portraits. If you would like to be in front of my camera next time I'm in this type of environment, please let me know. I would love to work that out! I have a ton of fun on lifestyle shoots, especially when they are with people that I know and love. This family is one of those groups of people that I know and love. We hung out in the forest and by the ocean, finding sea creatures and snails and capturing honest moments of what it means to be a part of this awesome family.
Thank you for trusting me to capture these moments for you <3 Not too long ago, I did a boudoir photo shoot and I fell in love with the photos. The photos were a paid gig for a friend though and she wasn't comfortable with me sharing them (understandably). But those photos really got me inspired to do more of the same sort of thing, particularly in the forest. Thanks to Camilla for braving the cold :)
The goal of these photos is not as much to show overt sexuality as much as to show the oneness between femininity and the forest. We, especially as women, are so deeply connected to the cycles of the earth and the more we can embody and love that as truth, the healthier our bodies and our worlds are. Camilla is one of my soul sisters and I never had any question that she would understand that concept or have any resistance to taking part in something like this. All things are one. All aspects of ourselves are one. It is just a matter of figuring out how best to recognize and marry those aspects in a society that is constantly telling us to conquer and divide. If you are interested in taking part in your own session, please send me an email and we can discuss packages and pricing :) This is possibly the funnest family shoot I have ever had the pleasure of photographing. Amilie, Sario and I spend about an hour just wandering around Englishman River Falls park. And by wandering around, I mostly mean following Sario as he led us to awesome places to cool waterfalls.
Sessions like this are a great way to capture an accurate depiction of what family life looks like while also gaining a few nice posed photos to send out in Christmas cards. If you are interested in your own photo session, please let me know! Since it is Halloween I thought today would be the perfect day to share this magical session. We went out the morning after one of the biggest storms of the season and caught the storm blowing away as the sun broke through and the gusts blew water off the breaking waves.
Sybil (Root to Limb Yoga) volunteered after freezing in the wind to jump in the water, and like the siren in her blood, she was amazing as the waves broke on her back. The waters in the Salish Sea are freezing and often unforgiving, but these pictures would never show it. To give you a little bit more context, I was in a winter jacket with my hood on.... I'm getting so lucky this last few months! I have had the chance to photograph some amazing people and see ideas I have been dreaming of for a while finally come to fruition.
Halloween is my fav "holiday" of the year. The veil feels so much thinner between worlds, we get to dress up as the things we wish we could be in real life. We get to recreate ourselves- just for one night, or in this case, in a way that is memorialized in photos. Dark Magic in the Woods Model: Cassandra Wolter Hair/ Make-up: Samaya de Laat Once in a while, as a photographer, you get a chance to photograph an incredibly good- looking couple in one of the most beautiful places on the planet. This was one of those weddings. When Sarah said she wanted me to photograph their wedding I was over the moon excited. I had wanted to photograph a couple in Avatar Grove for a long time and I knew this was my opportunity. Not only was this in the perfect location, but I had spent a week with Sarah doing a yoga teacher training before this and knew that she was a fantastic person, so I knew the entire experience would be wonderful. It was. Not only are Sarah and Cam, her hubby, fabulous people, but their friends and family were just was wonderful. It was an honor and a joy to be a part of their special day. So here are the photos of the amazing day. Venue: Big Fish Lodge, Port Renfrew Couple's Photos: Port Renfrew Beach and Avatar Grove Yoga Portrait special for the rest of the summer! Avaialbe Vancouver Island wide

Regular package prices range from $200-$500 So this magical wedding has too interesting of a story for me not to share in detail: I met Sarah and Chris at a wedding I was photographing last summer. Sarah was a bridesmaid, and at the end of the wedding, right after the bouquet had been thrown, Chris (who was drunk by then and doesn't remember this) came up to me and said, "She's next." Talking about Sarah being the next bride. "Oh yea," I said. "No, really." He replied, and he wasn't lying. So they called me to photograph their wedding, and naturally I was incredibly excited to be a part of the continuation of their story! The day of their wedding, however, started out for me as anything but smooth. Coral, my assistant, and I started driving down island and got stuck on the wrong side of an accident that shut down the Malahat. We almost didn't make it to the wedding! Ditching our car on one side of the Malahat, we jumped on a ferry by foot (a ferry that was nearly shut down due to crazy winds) and were lucky enough to be able to bum a ride on the other side and to the wedding. Filled with stress and arriving two hours later than we meant to, Coral and I made it half an hour before the ceremony. Forcing ourselves into the wedding vibe, we scrambled to catch up and get our photos. Naturally, some of the shots I wanted got missed, but I was still happy with what we got! And next time we photography a wedding in Victoria, we will definitely be heading up the night before. This was such a magically and beautifully styled wedding! Tammy from Blue Lily Events did an amazing job of not only planning an amazing ceremony and reception, but she also did a fantastic job of coordinating the event, keeping people organized and on time and looking beautiful while doing so :) I feel so blessed to have been able to photograph such a beautiful event with wonderful people :) Thanks again to Coral for being such an amazing assistant!
