Since it is Halloween I thought today would be the perfect day to share this magical session. We went out the morning after one of the biggest storms of the season and caught the storm blowing away as the sun broke through and the gusts blew water off the breaking waves.
Sybil (Root to Limb Yoga) volunteered after freezing in the wind to jump in the water, and like the siren in her blood, she was amazing as the waves broke on her back. The waters in the Salish Sea are freezing and often unforgiving, but these pictures would never show it. To give you a little bit more context, I was in a winter jacket with my hood on.... I'm getting so lucky this last few months! I have had the chance to photograph some amazing people and see ideas I have been dreaming of for a while finally come to fruition.
Halloween is my fav "holiday" of the year. The veil feels so much thinner between worlds, we get to dress up as the things we wish we could be in real life. We get to recreate ourselves- just for one night, or in this case, in a way that is memorialized in photos. Dark Magic in the Woods Model: Cassandra Wolter Hair/ Make-up: Samaya de Laat One day I went for a walk through the forest and I found myself in a fallow field. The field was amazingly beautiful, but it told me a forlorn story of a battle between good and evil, dark and light, youth and decay. It told me that I needed to photograph this story. A year later, this is the result of that encounter with a hidden field. Snow White and the Three Witches: the story of three witches stealing the youth of a beautiful young girl. Unfortunately, due to the fact that is snowed, we ended up shooting in a different field that the one I originally intended, but regardless I love how it turned out. Thanks to the Pickards for unknowingly donating your field’s time for the shoot :) haha. This the first shoot I have done that involved more than two models and a hair and make-up person. Thanks everyone who was involved for braving the very wet snow to make this idea a reality! Here are four behind the scenes photos from the shoot. Witches: Jordan Greco, Hannah Watson, Jessica Allan Snow White: Emily Carol Ruedig Snow White Make-up and awesome Assistant: John Burrage Witch’s Make-up: Jessica Allan Hair: Hannah Watson Wardrobe: Styled by each model and I, with extra input for John. The final product is below :) Check out my Facebook page to see more photos by Innocent Thunder Photography |
